Okay, that’s not exactly true. Magnets are not holding my finger together, but they are making my finger feel better. Sound crazy? Yeah, I don’t get it either. There’s something not quite right about my middle finger on my right hand. I think it happened when I was horsing around with my youngest son Noah. I need to make sure you know that even though he is my youngest, he’s also my biggest. He’s bigger than me and it’s only a matter of time before he figures out that he is stronger than me too. I’ve always had a strong grip and I’ve used it to my advantage whenever on my sons (and their friends) tried to test their strength on me. It’s the old “Squeeze their hands while shaking and see who gives up first” game that guys do and that women don’t understand. Needless to say, I plan on never losing this game with my boys or their friends. The only problem is these guys are getting big . . . and strong. Some of them are stronger than me so now it’s become a test of endurance, who can endure the pain the longest. Again, this part is lost on the female intellect. Anyway, I was goofing around with Noah and he grabbed hold of my fingers and squeezed while he twisted them. I just laughed (on the outside) and squeezed back. And my finger has hurt ever since, especially when I would make a fist. Fast forward to present day – well, present day a couple weeks ago. I was digging through my change in my jeep to pay for my McDonald’s cheeseburger when I found a ring I had bought a couple years ago. It’s a small copper ring with magnets. I never really liked the ring after I bought it because it’s not a complete circle (see photo). It sort of pinches my finger and that’s why it was mixed in with my change in my jeep. I had never bought into the whole “benefits of copper and magnets” thing either. For some reason I slipped the ring on, handed the girl in the window my change and took my cheeseburger. (Side note – the people working the drive-thru window at the Valdese McDonald’s are always super nice.) To be honest, I kind of forgot that I had it on until I was getting ready to shower the next day. I slipped it off, showered and slipped it back on. I wore it for several days and noticed a difference in how my finger felt. (How my finger felt? You know what I mean.) Maybe my finger was just getting better on its own. So I took the ring off for about a week. Guess what? My finger started hurting again. I put the ring back on and more. I pulled out a copper bracelet I had crammed in the back of my sock drawer and I’m wearing it, too. My wrist and finger may turn green but at least the pain’s gone.
